    Settings

Advanced settings are shown. Wrong values here can stop the scanbox finding devices, or get its switch port blocked. The defaults suit most sites.

    Software update

The scanbox updates itself on a 10-minute timer. Update now makes it update at its next check-in (about 15 seconds) instead.

    Scanbox web GUI

The scanbox's own web interface, opened in its remote browser. Its certificate is self-signed, so the browser warns first: choose Advanced, then Proceed. It asks for the scanbox's own login.

    What it does

    Speed

However fast it's set, the scanbox scans one device at a time and stays under its traffic limit (Scanning card, under Advanced), so switches don't mistake it for an attack.

    Limits

    Scanning

    Traffic limit

Every scan on this scanbox (background scan, new-device checks, Scan now) shares this budget of new connections per second, evenly spaced with no bursts. 50 is the most it will ever send: low enough for switches' SYN-flood and DoS protection. If a switch still blocks the scanbox's port, lower it.

    Port checks

    VLANs

Each VLAN the scanbox hears on its trunk gets its own interface, so it can reach and scan the devices there directly. Ignore removes that interface and stops reporting devices seen on it; Hide only leaves the VLAN off the scanbox page's VLAN tabs, its devices still listed under All VLANs; IP gives the interface a fixed address instead of DHCP. Changes reach the scanbox at its next check-in (about 15 seconds) and show as pending until it confirms. Which VLANs the background scan covers is set under Background scan → Networks.

    Unregister

Factory resets the scanbox at its next check-in (about 15 seconds): its registration, VLANs and everything it has found are wiped; its network settings and local admin password are kept. It then disappears from the dashboard along with all its discovered hosts and their history. To use it again, register it again. Remove without reset is for a scanbox that is gone or broken and will never check in.

    Create account

New accounts have no password: generate a setup code for them, and they enter it under Create one on the sign-in page to choose their own. A code works once, for 72 hours.

Fault codes are explained in webserver/README.md.

First, confirm it's you: your password and a code from the authenticator app you use now.

      1. Open the authenticator app on your new phone.
      2. Scan this QR code with it, or type in the key below it.
      3. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows.

Turn off 2FA for 48 hours?

For when your phone or authenticator app is gone. For the next 48 hours you sign in with your password alone, and only on the devices you trust now, like this one. Set up a new authenticator app before then: if you don't, signing in needs an enrolment code from your admin. You can do this once every 30 days.

      Rename device

      Open a TCP tunnel

Opens a port on the server that leads, through the scanbox, to . Point desktop software (Crestron Toolbox, PuTTY, ...) at the address it gives you.

      Restart PoE

Turns the power on of off, then on again. Whatever it powers restarts and is offline until it has booted.

Uses the write community saved for this switch.

The scanbox does it over SNMP, and won't touch the port it is itself connected through.

        Device login

For . Sent once to the scanbox, which keeps it encrypted and signs in from its own address. Nobody can read the password back, here or on the scanbox's dashboard.

        Command

The browsers they've signed in from. Blocking one ends its sessions at once and keeps it out until it's unblocked. For a lost phone, use Reset 2FA instead.
